Rowing was the only way of propulsion of the small vessels first constructed by man in order to investigate and exploit the water reserves of the planet.
In the modern maritime history of man, due to other means of vessel propulsion (wind, steam, internal combustion engines,etc), rowing has become an auxiliary means of propulsion for small fishing and recreational boats, but mainly an activity that supports fitness, touring and racing, for the modern design rowing boats.
